Phuel received an order through Habu from Aker Kvaerner, for the pressure control equipment for the Varg Platform. The order allowed Phuel to expand our product to encompass Risers, Greaseheads, Stuffing Boxes and Pump-In-Subs but in following the Phuel ethos all products have that bit extra, the Phuel Risers for example come complete with safety locks on the collars, the Phuel Greasehead uses a small quick union on the flowtube housings and the Phuel Stuffing Box has pump out packing along with the through loading capabilities (3”bore). The AKWS order also included the 20” Phuel Turnaround Sheave c/w built in Phuel Iris Toolcatcher. Aker Kvaerner appreciated the fact that the equipment handling and operator safety have been considered in all of the designs

Nov 2007

Phuel received an order from Habu Services Norway to supply pressure control equipment for their rental business. The order along with other equipment included a 6.3/8”id Full Deployment System, the Phuel Fast Test Sub c/w the collar safety locks and the new 20” Phuel Turnaround Sheave c/w built-in Phuel Iris Toolcatcher. Habu stated they wanted to be able to offer something different to the rental market.

Phuel and Habu sign a distribution agreement identifying Habu as the Phuel Oil Tools Ltd agent in Norway and other areas around the world. Both companies see this agreement as being the first step of a long and prosperous relationship, using Habu's extensive knowledge, experience and of course contacts along with Phuel's forward thinking design capabilities, innovative products and manufacturing/supply capabilities.

Oct 2007

Phuel received an order from RMEC to supply them with Wet Centre Reels for their new design of pressure control skids. The Phuel Wet Centre Reels in stainless were designed for 10,000psi working pressure and included both single and twin outlets along with a gearbox to ease manual rewinding. These reels were supplied to RMEC in December and subsequently we have been requested to quote on several other variations including ATEX approved Reels, which we can supply.

Deployment System

Deployment System The Phuel Deployment System allows operators to install a tool string longer than the available lubricating height, into a well bore, while maintaining full control of the well bore pressure. The system allows the deployment of longer lengths of production logging tools (PLT's) and wire-line conveyed perforating guns than conventional operations would normally allow. The system, therefore, reduces operation times while increasing the functionality and value from the intervention operation.

Tool Detector System

Tool Detector The tool detector is used to detect the position or indicate the presence of the tool string during well interventions (Wireline, Coil Tbg or HWO) to increase the safety of the operation. A magnet sub is attached to the tool string where audible and visual alarms warn of the arrival of the tool string at a sensor point on the rig up. Stand alone versions are available both for zone 1 and safe areas and can also be easily incorporated directly into the wire-line unit at the new build stage or as a “retro fit”.

Wireline Stuffing Box (S-Box)

S-Box The Phuel S-Box introduces a truly innovative feature that ensures that slickline packing can be easily and consistently redressed. The Phuel one-piece packing stick can be simply pumped out using the piston and with a snap on feature can be easily replaced and automatically pulled back into position when the pressure is bled off. The S-Box is made up in three sections to reduce manual handling and to allow the tool string to be fed through the top of the riser before make up. The wheel bracket can also be easily separated from the main body to provide easier handling. Contact us for more information and to request a product flyer.

IRIS Tool Catcher (S-Box)

IRIS Tool CatcherThe IRIS tool catcher dispenses with the traditional collet style grapples, which are restricted in the range of fishing necks that can be caught, and instead introduces a unique array of shaped fingers that form a spring loaded iris that automatically adapts to suit any size of fishing neck. The fingers are opened by means of a hydraulic piston to allow the tool string to be released when required. A second set of IRIS fingers, mounted on an energy damper are positioned in the opposite direction to act as a physical stop to the upward moving tool string. This second IRIS arrangement not only provides maximum shock protection for the tool string, but also allows the tools to be inserted from the top of the tool catcher, making the installation easier and safer.

Phuel Greasehead

With the innovation of using what are essentially small quick union connections on the flowtube housings Phuel has transformed the Greasehead functionality. This vastly improves, eases and speeds up the redressing operations and allows the operator to align his hydraulic connection with ease. The design utilises standard flowtubes and comes complete with ball check valves and chemical injection facilities. The Phuel Greasehead is designed for up to 10,000psi working pressure, 15,000psi test pressure H2S service. Higher working pressures can be obtained if required

Turn Around Sheave

Turnaround SheaveThe Phuel 20” Turnaround Sheave (TAS) was developed to maximise the height available above the wellhead in situations where height is an issue. The TAS allows you to position your Greasehead where it isn't using that vital space but is still of benefit. We believe that our TAS also offers the biggest diameter available on the market today greatly reducing the stress on your wire. The Phuel TAS has been extensively tested and is more than capable of withstanding the riggers of offshore operations incorporating bearings that can cope with 32 tonnes. The Phuel TAS is designed for 10,000psi working pressure 15,000psi test pressure and H2S service and can be offered with a Phuel Iris Toolcatcher built in. It can be dressed for any size of line up to 7/16” dia. (Higher working pressures can be obtained if required)

Fast Test Sub

The Phuel Fast Test Sub used where operations dictate you have to make and break the connection several times. The Sub allows you to do this simply and efficiently and as the name suggest offers the facility of quickly testing the connect's integrity by simply testing between the 'O' rings instead of having to fill and test the whole string above the BOP. The Fast Test Sub incorporates a whole range of Phuel features, Safe-Lok Collars with the Hi-Grip knurl, the NPT Saver Sub c/w an isolation valve and a nylon protector block to protect the fittings from damage. The Phuel Fast Test Sub is designed for up to 10,000psi working pressure, 15,000psi test pressure H2S service. Higher working pressures can be obtained if required.

Innovative Product Features - incorporated as standard

Collar Safe-Lok:

With this, Phuel has listened to what the operators have been complaining about for years, when using the larger connections there isn't a safe way of holding the collar out of the way when stabbing in or simply redressing the union. The spring loaded Safety Locks addresses this problem but also works as an anti-backoff device when the collar is made up, stopping it from loosening through vibration. The locks are simple to use and can be operated by one man. No longer will your finger safety have to depend on a glove shoved up between the union and the collar! We can offer the collar locks on any quick union connection but see their real value being on the larger sizes of connections

NPT Saver Sub:

Phuel in an effort to reduce down time and expense offer as a matter of course assemblies with the Phuel Saver Sub instead of the standard NPT port. This allows the operator to simply change out the small sub if problems occur with the NPT thread instead of having to change the full union. The Saver Subs can be supplied in the following forms, blank (no port), NPT threaded port, and Autoclave threaded port. The Phuel Saver Subs are designed for up to 10,000psi working pressure, 15,000psi test pressure H2S service. Higher working pressures can be obtained if required

Hi-Grip Collars:

Phuel are aware of the problems that an operator faces when dealing with pressure control equipment in the field, oil, grease, dirt all effecting the grip that equipment has to offer. For these reason we have ensured that our equipment is supplied with the maximum grip possible. As can be seen from the picture of a collar used on the Aker Kvaerner Varg order the special knurl we offer is deeper and more substantial than the standard offered by other manufacturers therefore reducing the risk of you grip slipping at that vital moment.

Wet Centre Reels

Phuel has developed a wet centre reel for incorporation into wire-line units. The reels allow hoses to be spooled while maintining the hydraulic connection through the spindle. Versions are now available with an air motor drive to provide safe and easy operations. The reels are certified to Atex requirements and are available in pressures upto 15,000 psi.
